The 18th International Academic Conference on MASM was held in Singapore from December 11th to December 14th, 2022. Professor Kan Wu served as one of the organizers of the conference, responsible for coordinating and planning the activities.

The panel session of this event was chaired by Professor Kan Wu, along with seven other renowned scholars with extensive experience in the semiconductor industry. The panelists included Professor John Fowler (US), Professor Lars Monch (Germany), Professor Reha Uzsoy (Industrial Engineering Program Director at US NSF), Professor Stéphane Dauzère-Pérè (France), Hans Ehm (Infineon), Adeline Tay (Micron), and Professor Chen-Fu Chien (Vice President of Tsinghua University). They shared their insights on the application of theory and practice in the semiconductor industry, discussing key factors that contribute to successful industry-academia collaborations and situations to avoid. The panel also received positive feedback from industry representatives, fostering potential future collaborations and exchanges with Professor Wu.

In addition to his role as one of the organizers, Professor Kan Wu presented a report on the operational scheduling issues in semiconductor diffusion furnaces. By identifying several attributes to reduce the solution space based on dynamic programming formulations, an efficient algorithm has been developed to address this problem, which has been successfully applied in production lines.

Through the sharing at the MASM International Academic Conference, it is expected that more talents will gain a better understanding of the semiconductor industry and join the field of research in the future.
